A charity ball hosted by television personality Lady Colin Campbell at her West Sussex home has raised £9,820 for Care for Veterans, a charity that supports former service personnel living with disabilities.
A night to remember at Castle Goring
The event, known as the Castle Goring Summer Ball, was held at Lady C’s historic home near Worthing and marked the fourth year running that she has opened her doors for the cause. This year’s ball welcomed 175 guests, up from around 160 the previous year, and the total raised also grew significantly on the £5,000-plus collected in 2025.
Guests enjoyed a three-course meal served in a marquee, followed by a charity auction and raffle. Prizes on offer included a week’s stay in an exclusive apartment in Tangier, a champagne afternoon tea for ten, a private tour of the castle, and a designer couture hat. A DJ kept the evening going after dinner.
The guest list reflected the social pull of Lady C’s annual event. Alongside her sons, Dmitri and Michael Ziadie, attendees included Princess Olga Andreevna Romanoff, a grandniece of Tsar Nicholas II, and members of the Peel Club, whose guests included the Earl of Burford — who arrived by helicopter.

Supporting veterans with complex care needs
Care for Veterans provides long-term nursing, rehabilitation, respite and end-of-life care to veterans and their families living with disabilities, including acquired brain injury and degenerative neurological conditions. The charity recently became part of the Royal Star & Garter group, joining forces to strengthen the specialist care available to former service personnel across the country.
Lady C said she was glad to support the charity again: “It was a pleasure to open my home again for this wonderful charity and support the important work Care for Veterans do.”
Clare Silva, Care for Veterans’ Events and Corporate Manager, thanked her for her continued generosity: “We’re so grateful to Lady C for her continued support for Care for Veterans. This fantastic evening has helped raise a huge sum.”
Money raised at events like this goes directly towards supporting veterans with complex care needs, many of whom require specialist nursing that isn’t always available through mainstream services.
Growing demand for specialist care
Demand for this kind of specialist support is likely to keep growing: the 2021 census found that almost 1.85 million people in England and Wales have served in the armed forces, and as that population ages, charities such as Care for Veterans are playing an increasingly important role in filling gaps in dedicated care. Fundraising events like the Castle Goring Summer Ball remain a vital source of income for organisations that rely heavily on public donations and corporate support.
